Itinerary

Day 1MADRID - BARCELONA

Take the AVE high speed train from Madrid to Barcelona and transfer to the hotel. Rest of the day free for own activities or optional tours. Overnight in Barcelona.

Day 2BARCELONA

After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel. First, a walking tour of the Gothic Quarter (Las Ramblas, Cathedral Square & the Jewish Quarter). Then we take the bus to see the elegant Paseo de Gracia, where you will see the famous Gaudi houses, Casa Battló and Casa Mila (La Pedrera), The Triumph Arc, as well as other majestic buildings from the Modernism era. Continue on to the Olympic Village, the beach and the fisherman’s quarter, called Barceloneta, the Port Vell, Plaza (square) de Colon with its famous Columbus monument the starting point of Barcelona’s most famous pedestrian street, the La Ramblas.

We will continue the visit driving up Montjuïc where you will enjoy a cable car ride with precious views of the city (closed in Jan-Mar for maintenance – Tapas instead). After the panoramic view we will drive the charming Spanish Village where you can admire a collection of traditional buildings from all over Spain, and a demonstration of a selection of the handcrafts made in this country. During the drive back to the city center we will pass by the Venetian Towers, the Montjuïc fountains, the MNAC and the CC, Las Arenas rebuilt over the ancient Plaza de Toros. We will arrive back at the Plaza de Catalunya. The afternoon is at your leisure to enjoy this bustling cosmopolitan city. Accommodation at the hotel.

Day 3BARCELONA - MONSERRAT - BARCELONA

Pick up from your hotel, after breakfast, for a morning tour to Montserrat. The mountain of Montserrat rises majestically to 4,051 feet (1,236 m). The 15 minute cogwheel train ride offers a spectacular view of the mountain. The rocks of Montserrat were formed by natural cement and centuries of wind and rain have shaped the mountain into strange and varied forms. You will visit the Royal Basilica of Montserrat, which holds the famous 12th century Romanesque carving of Virgen Moreneta, the Black Virgin. The Monastery dates back to 1025 and it is Spain’s second most important pilgrimage site after Santiago de Compostela. The tour includes entry to the audiovisual show its history and a tasting of 4 Montserrat liquors. The afternoon is free to continue exploring or relax. Accommodation at hotel.

Day 4BARCELONA

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport or railway station
