Bienvenido! Welcome to Madrid. After months of planning you’ve finally arrived. If you booked a tour with us the odds are you have the arrival day to settle into your hotel with no fixed plans. You’ll be feeling a little jet lagged and if it’s your first time in Spain you might be feeling a little nervous about heading out into the bustling city. Shake it off and don’t miss this opportunity to explore the city and immerse yourself in all it has to offer.
If your stomach is rumbling and you fancy getting right amongst the locals and fellow foodies, the best place to visit is the Mercado de San Miguel. Located next to the Plaza Mayor Madrid this 100- year old food market is housed in a beautiful period building offering hungry tums the opportunity to taste the finest of Spanish gastronomy from every corner of Spain. If you are new to Spain it’ll give you the opportunity to taste your way through many regional specialities. You will find 20 stalls committed to preparing quality tapas and others offering a startling selection of beers, wines, vermut (Catalan for vermouth) and of course sangria. Visit the Mercado de Dan Miguel website before you come as they often have events onsite as part of their “Days of Market” program. You will find wine tastings directed by sommeliers and chef led cooking demonstrations. It’s an immersive sensory experience, the atmosphere, the smells, the people watching and of course the food is first class. Open from 10am to midnight – Monday to Thursday & Sunday. 10am to 1am Friday & Saturday.
